Dear Walter:
I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt.
I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in the bedroom with a neighbor lady making love to her. I am 32, my husband is 34 and we have been married for twelve years.
When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that he'd been having an affair for the past six months.I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless.
I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. I don't feel I can get through to him anymore. Can you please help?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sheila Usk

Dear Sheila:
A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the jubilee clips holding the vacuum pipes onto the inlet manifold.
If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber.
I hope this helps.
A simple blog that I plan on using to post links and comments on items of interest I come across daily.

Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18.. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.. So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with thearrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Sinc e you are all such good customers, he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20." Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?"
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $50 instead of $59 (15% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free.
But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, "but he got $9!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got nine times more than I!" "That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $9 back when I got only two? The wealthy get al l the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor." The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists, and college professors, is how our tax system works.
The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Voter Fraud
Interesting article about a guy hired by the Republican Party that overloaded the DNC's phone systems in New Hampshire a couple years ago. Apparently it also affected some Fire Departments' ability to take Senior Citizens to polls. The Senate seat in question was decided by just 19,000 votes.

Born Alive Infant Protection Act
The Born Alive Infant Protection Act was drafted to mandate life-saving medical care to babies that were born from botched abortion attempts. Some mothers were inducing their babies pre-term in the hopes that the delivery itself would kill the child, but in some cases the baby survived, in which case the medical staff would take the unwanted baby and put it on a shelf in the medical waste closet to die. Sometimes the baby would die in a minute, other times they would live for an hour, laying on a shelf in the medical waste closet.
There was a story in an article I read [found here] that describes one person's experience of one of these infants that was refused medical care. Below is an excerpt from her testimony.
"One night, a nursing coworker was taking an aborted Down's Syndrome baby who was born alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him, and she did not have time to hold him. I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived. He was 21 to 22 weeks old, weighed about ½ pound, and was about 10 inches long. He was too weak to move very much, expending any energy he had -- trying to breathe.
Toward the end, he was so quiet that I couldn't tell if he was still alive, unless I held him up to the light to see if his heart was still beating through his chest wall. After he was pronounced dead, we folded his little arms across his chest, wrapped him in a tiny shroud, and carried him to the hospital morgue where all of our dead patients are taken."

Health Care Hypocrisy
An interesting article from the Wall Street Journal about the differences between McCain's Heath Insurance Plan and Obama's, and questions why Obama is calling it "radical".
Update (10/22/08) to the differences between the two plans. I'd prefer to use another source, but nobody else takes the time to go into as much detail.

Alec Baldwin, right on the money.
While listening to the Glenn Beck program during lunch yesterday I heard a clip from Alec Baldwin while he was on the Bill Maher show. I was very surprised.
BALDWIN: The thing we have to remember, a friend of mine who is very close to the financial community in New York pointed out that Democrats have a lot of the responsibility for this as well. I mean, it was Clinton who killed the Glass-Steagall, and it happened under a Democratic president. Barney Frank and his committee, they, they kept propping up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac saying everything’s fine, everything’s fine, everything’s good. And it was his job to know everything wasn’t fine. And Barney Frank let you down and let us down as well. But I want to say that there's blame to go, but I keep maybe beating this to death but I still think anyone in this congress who voted to add $140 billion to that, that they should be ashamed of themselves. That is a disgrace.
I pulled this quote from the Glenn Beck website, the entire quote is found here. It's actually quite comical and I highly recommend it.

Blind devotion
Today I decided to try and find out why people so vehemently follow a candidate (any candidate). I posted my question on Yahoo! Answers and received some interesting answers. The link is below.

Want to grow a money tree
Today I posted a question on Yahoo! Answers asking how to grow my own money tree. Sadly enough, there was one person that actually thought it was a serious question.
Trying to grow a money tree, please help?
Does anyone know how to do this? Don't say they don't exist, the government has one (and it's a biggie). So, I dug a hole in my back yard to start my money tree. One of my kids almost fell in, I was sure to grab him before that happened because heaven knows I don't want more kids growing on this thing :Now I've taken all of my extra cash and other valuables and placed them (oh so lovingly) into the hole, added a splash of 401k and patted it all down with some leftover stocks (figured it will work like fertilizer). I water it regularly but nothing's happening. No sprout, not even a measly dollar bill. Did I miss an ingredient? Watering too much/little?Please help.
